We've covered Huntington lacrosse this season against Glenn and we'll see the Blue Devils in the…Read More playoffs.

Amen to that. As a driver of a full size SUV, I often am very nervous about overtaking a group of…Read More cyclists on narrow roads such as 25A and Route 108 in Cold Spring Harbor. I often have to choose between having a very close call with an oncoming car, or almost clipping the cyclists on my right. I with they would be more considerate and follow traffic laws better.

Some Marketing geek at AOL is saying that we are issue, not them, as readership and comments dwindle…Read More to nothing. This was a highly ill conceived format based more on driving advertising revenue. However, with hits down substantially, the advertisers will go away too.

And Free 2B Me, is was adding to the comment about how my daughter's confrontation was because she…Read More was parking in a public lot with valet. It has everything to do with the original conversation to show that you can't go down and park in areas designated to the PUBLIC TO PARK and enjoy Huntington if there is something going on. As I said, I've told my daughter to go elsewhere, just like to original comment was about people not coming into eat at restaurants. Huntington restaurants and parking should be available to everyone, not just because you go to a certain restaurant or you have a ticket to a show.

TM, we are commenting on the subject of the blog opinion posted by Christine, not you daughter's…Read More alleged confrontation.

I think you missed the point. I wasn't complaining that I had to walk 2 Turn Tables. I was in a…Read More restaurant where the workers were stating that they are often dead on a Fri and Sat night when a big show is in town and that the top lot at Elm is not allowing the Public on those nights. I am in the village 7 days a week and I personally park a block away from my office to allow for customers. I just think if you are going to have a valet in a Public lot, then maybe it should be a valet for anyone that wants to park - not just one business.

One can also donate books to Book Revue. While they won't take everything, they will take quite a…Read More bit. Then, there are the local churches that have rummage sales (not just clothes and dishes). Finally, hospitals and prisons are always happy to receive free books. Don't ask, just ship!

Oh, puhleeze. I am so tired of these knee-jerk conservative "ripostes" (I'm being ironic…Read More here; PB's remarks barely even qualify as "replies") to anything that even vaguely hints at a liberal commentary. Isn't it possible to want to give, without being politically labeled? Clearly, not for some.

Hello Rabbi Huberman, Usually I give up TMZ for Lent, but then go back to it as it can be amusing…Read More at times. I don't even know who they are talking about, for example:. Ashley Tisdale.(?) Anyway, calling somebody a "rising nobody" is funny for a second but basically its just snark, or as you call it "dreque". You inspired me to give it up completely, forever. Thank you. Ann

Why the need to call the writer, Pat's statements moronic? She has a right to her opinion without…Read More being dismissed in such a rude fashion. As a tax payer who also pay's a fortune, I am appalled that this "free" service is being cut back. Justin Thyme, has it ever occurred to you that some families depend on the library and for whatever reason cannot afford to go to Barnes and Noble. Seriously, your dismissive comments are not called for. Get your opinion out without being a bully

I WOULD have talked to a trustee if I had been able to attend the last trustee meeting before the…Read More budget vote, but I couldn't because I have a job and needed more than a few days notice after getting this budget proposal. It's not the librarians that are planning this service cut. The library has most certainly had programs on Friday nights... there was a Carol King tribute show on a recent Friday night that I mentioned, was that a figment of my imagination? There have been many Friday programs, why don't YOU ask the librarians or the security personnel on Friday, but I guess if it is not on the website it means it never happened. In fact there is a movie planned for Friday night June 28th which people should plan on attending because it will be the LAST program on a Friday night. Do you want to know why I am not going to Barnes & Nobles? Because I pay HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS in library taxes to support my local library and I have a right to expect some service in return. Look at all the public libraries in surrounding areas. They have the same tax levies but their facilities and services are much better. I'm not the only one in town who has a problem with increased taxes and decreased services. Why don't YOU get your facts straight and stop hiding behind that pathetic nom de plume Justin Thyme, instead of calling someone a moron for standing up for what they believe. You are a coward and a bully.

Interesting article. It reinforces the point of the blog which stresses the importance of ensuring…Read More that animal rights, labor laws and environmental respected when we slaughter and prepare our food. It's also interesting to note that the Noahide law of respecting animal rights appears in the Torah many generations before the laws of Kashrut.

The simple answer to your question is "the Bible says so." Leviticus 11:21 notes "you…Read More may eat all the winged swarmy things that will walk on all fours; all that have above their feet jointed legs to leap with on the ground" This includes bald locust, crickets and all varieties of grasshoppers.
As "counter intuitive" as this may appear to us living in the United States, especially during times of famine it was important set boundaries with regard to what people could consume. After all, Kosher actually means "fit" to eat. Although the Bible is vague on why it distinguishes between different types of insects, I am guessing that the law seeks to divide insects which spend all their time walking in the earth and dust, and those who were able to jump or fly.
It is interesting to note that last month, just prior to Passover, a rare infestation of locust occurred in the Middle East. The attached link documents the "invasion" and notes that this set off a fad of locust eating in various many countries.

Consuming locust may seem odd to us, but based on some of the fast foods or other items which we consume on the fly in North America, who are we to judge?
Thank you for the question.

Thanks for this article. There was a NYT op-ed on the subject of animal treatment published Monday:…Read More http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/09/opinion/open-the-slaughterhouses.html?_r=1&. Could how we treat "food animals," maybe the most rights-deprived sentient members of our society, relate to our sense of compassion, or lack of it, in other arenas?
