Wieland: Teachers Need to Get Real

Wieland said that he feels public employees must make concessions.

Dear Fellow Huntington Residents,

Tomorrow we go to the polls and vote "yes" or "no" for your school districts budgets.

After reviewing some newspaper columns I would say that 80 percent of the comments reflect that the Long Island population is going to vote no on their school's budgets. It appears the only ones voting yes are the teachers! The overall message from those who have posted is that, on Long Island:

  • We are taxed enough
  • Teachers' pay is too high
  • Unions need to wake up
  • Public employees need to help curb the budgets
  • Teachers only work 10 months out of the year
  • Administrative pay and number of administrators is to high
  • School districts on Long Island should be consolidated

For a summary of increases in the districts within the township of Huntington, see attached pdf.

Tuesday's vote is going to very interesting. Remember 58% of the budgets in New Jersey were defeated last month!
