Village After Dark

A new addition to the Around Town column – featured on Tuesdays and Thursdays – will help you figure out where to go out in the Village.

Are you bored with your nightly routine? Think there’s a bar (or two) you’re missing out on? Wondering where to go with friends in town? Well, twenty-somethings (and anyone who enjoys a night on the town), have no fear, Patch is here. This new column – running on Tuesdays and Thursdays – will bring you ideas for going out for drinks, dinner and dancing. It will also give you a glimpse of the crowd you’ll find should you venture to a new local.

We invite you to take this journey through Huntington Village with us and share your ideas, tips and tricks – and, of course, any ideas you may have. I look forward to hearing from everyone interested in changing up their weekend activities.

Looking for something to do tonight? Just because it’s Tuesday doesn’t mean you can’t take advantage of the dozens and dozens bars, restaurants and “clubs” in town.

1.    Strawberry’s Bar, Bakery & Grill:  Every Tuesday night, from 9 p.m. to close, this bar doubles as a stage for all brave enough to try their hand at karaoke. Having been there myself, I can tell you there are some regulars who have some awesome skills, and then there’s a bunch of people who just like to have fun. Belting out hits from the ‘80s and ‘90s and of course, the ever popular sounds of “Rent,” heading over to Strawberry’s on a Tuesday is definitely a good time for girls and guys alike. This bar also has a great dance scene on Thursday night when ladies drink free from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m.

2.    Rookies Sports Club: At the very end of Main Street, Rookies boasts dozens of screens on the game of the moment (or just SportsCenter if there isn’t a game on), great wings, comfortable booths and of course beer by the pitcher. This is a great place to go, gather at least six friends (the minimum for a reservation, which is definitely needed for a big game night) and head there between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. to take advantage of their Happy Hour Special – $3 beers and $5 appetizers at the bar.

3.    Chesterfield’s: On Thursday nights (come on, you know you’re looking forward to the weekend already!) this bar on New York Avenue hosts open blues, rock and jazz bands as well as guest bands each week. There’s also live music here on Friday and Saturday nights and comedy on Sundays.

4.    The Artful Dodger: This bar, on New Street, also hosts a Ladies’ Night on Thursday evenings, with ladies getting in for free till 11 p.m. and an open bar on Absolut drinks from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m.

5.    Huntington Village Tavern: A great spot to begin or end the night, this laid-back bar features beer on tap, a jukebox and pool tables. The hours vary, but they have a happy hour Monday to Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and in my experience they’re usually open till at least 3:30 a.m.
