Gillibrand Nominates Two Locals For Service Academies
Brandon Fiordelisi and Robert Tirrito chosen.
Two Huntington-area seniors have been nominated by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand to two of the nation's leading service institutions.
Nominees include Huntington's Brandon Fiordelisi, to the United States Naval Academy and Centerport's Robert Tirrito to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
Those chosen were picked from a large group of qualified applicants, according to Gillibrand. Academic record, leadership potential and overall achievement were criteria used in the selection process. Final acceptance is determined solely by the service academies.
“I am honored to nominate these young, talented New Yorkers who exemplify these core values," said Gillibrand in a press release. "It is my hope that the accomplished nominees have the chance to live their dreams and serve in our country’s armed forces with distinction.”
