St. Anthony's Girls Basketball Edges LuHi

Friars earn 65-59 OT win over Long Island Lutheran Sunday in battle of Long Island's top-ranked teams.

The St. Anthony's girls basketball team needed to travel to the Bronx on Sunday to find out it was the best on Long Island.

St. Anthony's guard Rebecca Musgrove scored 22 points, including the back end of a one-and-one to force overtime, as the Friars pulled away from Long Island Lutheran, 65-59 in OT. The game was part of the Kennedy Challenge in the Bronx, the New York Post reported.

It was a battle between the top two girls basketball teams on Long Island, according to Newsday.

The Friars converted 10 of 13 free throws in OT to secure the win, Newsday reported. LuHi fell to 14-3.

"It was such a great game," St. Anthony's Coach Ken Parham told Patch. "Both teams played well and it was a high level game."

St. Anthony's (13-4) hosts league rival St. Mary's Friday at 5:45 p.m. It's the first half of a double-header on Hawaiian Night. The boys basketball team hosts Kellenberg at 7:30 p.m.
