Commack
- The Commack Union Free School District will adopt a zero-based budgeting process for the 2011-12 budget, giving residents the opportunity to have more control over the finalized budget and more information before the adoption and vote.
- Harry Potter fans packed cinemas across Suffolk County in order to enjoy part I of the final movie, complete with costumes and a little midnight magic.
- The Town of Huntington's unemployment rate dipped slightly in October, showing a trend of a slowly increasing economy – something state officials see as promising.
Dix Hills
- Suffolk Drum and Dance meets at Dix Hills Methodist Church to create music in the moment – it's a performance of participation, leaders said.
- Dix Hills East hosted the NYSCAME/SCMEA All-County Music Festival, which hosted over 50 high schools – about 670 students – from Suffolk County.
- The Town of Huntington Planning Board is evaluating the property owned by JMM Estates, which may have illegal structures on the property.
Huntington
- The Huntington Farmer's Market – which is open from June to November – closed for the season on Sunday.
- The Huntington Chamber of Commerce celebrated their eighty-fifth anniversary in style – by turning the clocks back to 1925, for one evening and one evening only. Patch had a photo gallery to capture this epic example of modern-day time travel.
- Huntington Board of Education is searching for a new superintendent and South Huntington schools got their report card last week.
Hauppauge
- Marines bearing Turkeys stormed LI Cares on Thursday morning, in an effort to help families across Long Island.
- Suffolk tourism agencies fear the funding cuts under a proposal to change Suffolk County's tourism marketing and spoke out at the legislature meeting on Tuesday.
- The sale of the Foley Nursing Home in Suffolk County is imminent as the Suffolk County Legislature failed to override Levy's veto of continued funding into 2011.
Northport
- U.S. Rep. Steve Isreal, D-Huntington, was appointed chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Friday by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, which will enable him to play a key role in selecting candidates for the next election.
- Northport-East Northport School Board has received high marks – the highest a school district can receive, in fact – on their internal operations based on an independent audit report done by Peter Rodriguez, a partner at Cullen & Danowski.
- An East Northport man, Mark Roesler, was seriously injured in an early morning crash on Monday in Dix Hills. He is currently at Huntington Hospital receiving attention for injuries sustained in the crash.
Smithtown
- Temple Beth Sholom hosts a craft fair to help Smithtown residents prepare for the holidays. Smithtown houses of worship promise many more fairs as Hanukkah and Christmas approach.
- The Empire State games will still be hosting their winter session, Patch reports.
