Future Site of 18th LD Office Uncertain
After April fire at nearby XO Wine & Chocolate Bar, district office temporarily relocated.
Nearly eight months after fire caused 18th District Legislator Jon Cooper to relocate to the Curator's Cottage at the Vanderbilt Planetarium in Centerport, the future location of the district office remains unknown.
Cooper, D-Huntington, reaching the end of his six-term limit in the Legislature, said the move to the Curator's Cottage at the Vanderbilt Museum was temporary although no future office site has been named to date, according legislative aid Linda Guido.
The April fire at Cooper's former office on Gerard Street and Clinton Avenue in Huntington was apparently caused by a blown-out candle thrown in the garbage by a cleaning crew in an adjacent store, according to Guido.
After a tally of absentee votes Thursday, the Suffolk County Board of Elections named Dr. William Spencer the victor in a close 18th LD election race for Cooper's seat. Spencer will begin his term in January.
