Huntington Has Taste

Charity was in fashion at sold-out event attended by more than 350 guests.

Prime Restaurant on New York Avenue hosted its third annual night of fashion, food and fun, "Huntington Has Taste," on Tuesday, June 8. As the sun set over Huntington Harbor and a cool breeze wafted off the water, more than 350 guests previewed spring and summer's hottest fashions while giving back to the community at large.

According to Genevieve Sloup,  President of RSVP Events NY,  tickets sold out early and the event raised more than $4,500 for Island Harvest, Long Island's largest hunger relief organization. Based in Mineola, Island Harvest sources out food to 600 member agencies, including 33 food pantries, food kitchens, and food banks in Huntington, which serve, on the average, about 400 meals daily.

"We had a great turn-out, it was a beautiful summer night , and it is so nice to give back," said Sloup, indicating that it was the first time that the fashion event had been  linked with a charity.

The event showcased the offerings of some of Huntington and Northport's best-loved boutiques: the Pink Link, Rexer-Parkes, Francine's Fashion Boutique, Sophi Blu, and Veronica Rayne.

"Huntington is such a unique place as is Northport. There are so many boutiques and small businesses," Sloup said, adding that the show gave attendees  a wonderful perspective on  the diversity of fashion options, with each shop using its time on the catwalk to spotlight very different looks.

"Whatever you are looking for, you can find it at one of the various boutiques at all price points," Sloup said.

The event also gave the very well-dressed crowd looking for a night out a chance to show off their personal style while "getting a taste of the celebrity life," Sloup indicated.

As guests enjoyed champagne or "staying alive" martinis and a plethora of delicious hors d'oeuvres, including sushi and baby lamb chops, models sporting flirty looks promenaded down the dockside runway. Yachts navigating the harbor pulled in for a closer look at the tantalizing spectacle.

First up were the youngest models, ranging in age from 18 months to 6 years, dressed by Sophi Blu, Northport's premier children's fashion boutique. As children traipsed down the aisle holding hands, in pairs and trios, the crowd went wild. Highlights included ensembles in a bouquet of colors from Kaiye Eve, Misha Lulu and Isabel Garreton.

The models, sporting fabulously chic Lilly Pulitzer fashions from The Pink Link, had the crowd seeing the world through rose-colored glasses. Known for capturing the essence of summer with its happy palette of pinks, greens, turquoises and yellows, the fashions, which ran the gamut from a bikini to beguiling dresses in a variety of fabrics, were complimented by color- coordinated handbags and casual jewelry.

Known for an engaging mélange of well-known labels and edgy, urban, one-of-a-kind offerings from independent designers, Veronica Rayne Boutique made a statement with outfits that included a belted black cotton romper , a cotton tie dye print dress with studded belt, and skinny jeans paired with a tunic embellished with metallic embroidery.

Rexer- Parkes brought out the applause with an exquisite silk ombre gown in a shimmering medley of colors designed in-house and a Diane von Furstenberg shade gold jacket paired with Cupro camouflage shorts.

Francine's Fashion Boutique created visual drama with an eye-catching red and black sundress, a Morrell Maxie satin dress in a stunning peach, and a full length yellow gown of jersey and chiffon that flaunted rhinestone accents.

The models were  prepared for the limelight courtesy of Spa Adriana, and they were radiant, thanks to the spa's new Moroccan Spice beauty collection. Resplendent coiffures, featuring lightly teased cups for volume and thick braids infused with contrasting hair extensions, whetted the imagination.

The event concluded with raffle drawings for the grand and door prizes and the Chinese auction.
