Empty in Huntington: Former Classy Coffee Site

Tell us what you want on the vacant property.

Walk down Main Street or drive down Route 110 in Huntington Station and you will notice some vacant storefronts adorned with "For Rent" signs, a possible indication of the hard times the area — and country — are facing.

The Town of Huntington has embarked on a local revitalization plan to spark economic growth in the area and fill empty sites with businesses and housing.

Huntington Patch will spotlight empty properties to foster discussion in the community on what can, should and could be done to rehab abandoned places.

This week's property is the former Classy Coffee location at 20 Clinton Avenue in Huntington which closed after a fire burned out two other businesses and forced a county legislator to relocate.

Classy Coffee had indicated that it planned to reopen after the fire that broke out in April at XO Wine and Chocolate Bar but has since cleared out and a for rent sign hangs in the window. On Facebook, the store said "Due to a never ending list of obstacles, we have decided not to re-open in Huntington. We are currently searching for new locations."  A dancewear store, Instructor’s Choice, also has packed up.

The second-floor office of Jon Cooper, then majority leader of the Suffolk County Legislature, relocated to Centerport.

I sound like a broken record because I keep asking for this... a fabric store, please! They could sell fabrics, notions, even sewing machines. They could offer lessons as well. I'm sure the women (and men?) of Huntington would support a store like this, as we have NONE in the immediate area! Perhaps they could even have some support or connection with the fashion courses offered at Huntington High School.

Two blonds and a stove going where the dance shop was I thought? There is also space next to that for rent and classy coffee.

Is this a good location for a business? I'm always parking here, so I imagine it gets good foot traffic. At the same time it's off the main streets.
