Algieri To Return to Paramount Jan. 28
The undefeated boxer will enter the ring vs. Curtis Smith.
Boxing fans will have another reason to cheer on Jan.28 at the Paramount in Huntington, as the undefeated Chris Algieri (12-0, 6 KO) makes his return to the ring against Curtis Smith (10-5, 5 KO).
Algieri is coming off a recent trip to Las Vegas, where he trained alongside WBC No.1 contender Ajose Olusegun (30-0, 14 KO).
"We had really good sparring in Vegas, it was great work," Algieri said, after an intense sparring session at the Bellmore Kickboxing Academy. "I feel really good all around, a bit sore, but that's how you know you're working hard."
Algieri, a St. Anthony's High School graduate, now splits his time between the ring, working at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, and getting into medical school.
"He strives to be the best at everything he does," said trainer Keith Trimble at a previous training session. "If you told him to run through [a wall], because it'd make him a better fighter, he'd run through that wall."
Algieri spoke on what he expects to see in the ring January 28th.
"I haven't really seen much of Smith on tape," he said. "Whether he's coming to box, or slug it out, we'll find out in the first round and we'll be ready."
