18th LD Candidate: William Spencer [VIDEO]

First-time candidate says he's ready to roll up his sleeves and get to work.

Centerport doctor William Spencer is looking to succeed the term-limited Democrat Jon Cooper for the 18th Legislative District seat in Suffolk County.

"This is my first time running for office, but it is too important not to run," said Spencer, last week at a candidate forum in Greenlawn.

Spencer, 44, is chief of Huntington Hospital's otolaryngology department. He and his wife, Rachel, have three children. He also serves as head of the Huntington Housing Authority, with his term expiring in June.

"I've been able to see the American dream," said Spencer. "I think our brightest days are ahead."

I am worried about mini-Matinecocks all over the place. Those Avalon Bay people seemed really upset but does the Northport residents know what he stands for?

I doubt it.

It is unfortunate that Black supporters need to be so unkind and angry on here. We should all be able to talk about the issues and policies without the attacks. Calling someone a "slimey Dem" cannot help any candidate and only teaches people not to get involved. I support William Spencer because he has careful plans to work with all of huntington on environmental issues, safety issues, and all of the factors that help make Huntington a great town. I am proud to live in this Town. Is it a town that needs improvement? Yes, like many towns, it does. I personally feel that William Spencer will work with both parties when elected, whereas Liz Black has shown she can't do that. She speaks ill of the police, statistics, different levels of government---how can that person bring people together? At the same time, I thank both candidates for their hard work in running and wanting to represent people in Huntington.

While not as formal as the Liz Black video (I guess he didn't do a separate interview), he shows that he's an independent thinker and ready to do the real work required in the Legislature. I look forward to seeing him elected tomorrow night.

Doc Density to the rescue. He will fix everything by building housing projects and stuffing them full of lazy do nothings that will not contribute anything to society besides debt and misery for everyone.

Sorry to see that you feel the need to continue with racist/classist remarks like this.

This Dr. Density complaint is as classy as the graffitti signs hung on the Northern Parkway and on a private person's fence---or the "dump" people flashing sign on Oakwood. Kids live in this community and don't need to see the nastiness characterizing campaign season. There is meanness on every side, but enough already. I will tell you why I am hoping Dr. Spencer gets elected. I won't take this opportunity to "dump" on his opponent, despite my dislike for her candidacy. I am voting for Dr. Spencer because of his comitment to the environment. I am voting for Dr. Spencer because he will work well with other people in the legislature so every issue doesn't have to be a fight. I want to see collaboration. I'm sick of the anti-Town, anti-government, anti-everyone attitude. I am voting for Dr. Spencer because he understands that crime is not specific to one neighborhood, but exists in different parts of the Township. I am hoping Dr. Spencer is elected because he will work with the entire legislature, community, leaders and private sector to improve the lives we lead.

Daily mailings of hateful lies and distortions about Liz Black is not classy. Doc wants to backpedal and say he has no control over what his party sends out? Lame. And not leadership.

were those things paid for by Friends of Spencer? Those fliers sure were.

I actually smiled when I saw that flashing DUMP BERLAND DUMP JACKSON sign. Thank goodness the people are taking action. I applaud all the individual efforts of the tax paying residents.

I am sorry, What Mr Spencer's campaign has done far outweighs what fed up people are doing! When people are angry they don't need to be classy about being mad! Why do you judge that? I think the general feel is people are done with business as usual and the attack attack attack mentality that seems to be coming for the other side is not OK, then to finger point after that? Just desperation. One thing is for sure, tomorrow will be very telling. Tides are a changin' and quite honestly it's about darn tootin' time!

Ms. Otta, believing that anything is better than this, just doesn't work. People should be mad, I agree--but Dr. Spencer is an independent, not someone controlled by any party. His opponent shut down a school and didn't do anything to help the area. Not a thing. I hope you are right that tides are a changin' --I'm hoping that means we are electing independently-minded candidates.

Hey Joseph, Reality Check: Spencer is a puppet for the party bosses. He was appointed to the Housing Authority by Petrone to keep all the business of the agency away from the public eye - spencer never filed the required audits; when Spencer was criticized for his classless mailings who came running to his aide- Boss Ricky Schaeffer from BABYLON and lame duck Cooper ( alias: "15 Aliases") Spencer stayed mute. Do you call that independence? By the way- spencer says nothing in this video -just the typical political

Someone who is not controlled by a campaign does not turn around and blame them, the campaign , for the mailers he is accused of distributing!
