Townwide Fund Donates $100K to Local Charities
Some local not-for-profit organizations in Huntington received welcome relief as the Townwide Fund of Huntington presented a check for $100,000 to 21 charities during their annual Board Meeting. Board Members from the Townwide Fund were joined by many of the charities for the annual check giving ceremony.
"Our local nonprofits are feeling the effects of the current economic climate," explained James T. Powers, President of the Townwide Fund of Huntington. "The work and efforts of the Townwide Fund of Huntington is a great way for each of our board members to 'give back' and support the organizations who need that support and who work so hard within our local community to help others," he continued.
As a local, non-governmental agency, the Townwide Fund of Huntington bridges the gap between dwindling governmental support for local charities and the increasing needs of community residents. The Townwide Fund was founded in 1961 by a group of private citizens who wanted to help local charities raise vital funds which are desperately needed to service the community.
The Townwide Fund's mission is to keep money raised in Huntington within the community to service its residents. Now, over 49 years later, the Townwide Fund has provided more than $9 million to support Huntington through its local charities by providing support so they can offer much needed programs, such as health and human services, to Huntington Township residents.
The Townwide Fund raises money through various fundraising efforts which take place throughout the year and are supported by its Board Members. These fundraising activities include a direct mail campaign, St Patrick's Day Run, Thanksgiving Day Run, Northport Theatre Christmas Show, payroll donation plan, coin-box program and an annual golf outing.
"We appreciate the support and the work of the Huntington Townwide Fund," explained Paule Pachter, Executive Director of LI Cares, The Harry Chapin Foundation. "We are especially grateful to have the Huntington Townwide Fund support our work every year by honoring the commitment and mission of our founder, Harry Chapin, who was a resident of Huntington," he continued.
